Science Spotlight: Radar in Space - Engineering Marvels Unleashed

We are delighted to host another science spotlight in cooperation with the IHE. The talk is given by radar system engineers Ulrich Steinbrecher and Markus Bachmann from the German Aerospace Center (DLR), who designed and operate the TerraSAR-X & TanDEM-X radar missions. Both satellites have been in orbit for almost 18 years supporting geoscience and environmental monitoring.

Experience the daily work and perspectives of Electrical Engineers in satellite research and learn how radar interferometry is used to generate a digital elevation model.

This Science Spotlight will take place on the 13th of February 2025 at the NTI lecture hall starting at 15:45. We welcome all students, researchers and IEEE members that are interested in the topics. Will provide cold drinks and some pizza after the event, so you will have the chance to chat with us and the speakers.

Science Spotlight: Automotive Radar

Some time has passed since our last Science Spotlight. Therefore we are delighted to host another event in cooperation with the IHE. Martin Kunert will give insights into the history and current trend in automotive radar technology.

Science Spotlight: Spaceborne Radar System Technologies

Some time has passed since our last Science Spotlight. Therefore we are delighted to host another event in cooperation with the IHE and Airbus. Alexander Hees and Grzegorz Adamiuk will focus on perspectives for all prospective electrical engineers in spaceborne radar system technologies.

Science Spotlight: Machine Learning - Report

On March 20th, 2023 we had 31 participants visiting the Communications Engineering Lab at Campus West to attend the first Science Spotlight: Machine Learning. The presentations about deep-learning for wireless design and robotics gave a good insight on future applications in the respective areas. In the final presentation about neuromorphic computing and its applications the presenters gave a detailed view on power efficient implementation spiking neural networks on hardware in practice. We want to thank the presenters for their time and effort to give us such a good introduction in their fields, we hope that the attendees will benefit from this event in their future endeavours.

To keep the attention of the attendees up we received generous support by the IEEE Germany section for cold drinks and snacks. We want to express our gratitude for this support.

Following the presentations a group of participants and presenters met up at Badisches Brauhaus to have a well-deserved dinner and some local beers. We have received positive feedback from the participants and we are looking forward to organizing the next Science Spotlight in the near future.
